Managing Workflow
What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
Toby Mini is an application I have installed today to make life easier while planning. I want to have my maths planning open in multiple tabs and organise them into a folder which can then easily be opened and shared.
Another application that seems to be useful is Google hangout/google calendar. I've set up a google hangout with Nick and Paige (team members).

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
I considered most challenging role to be the screen recorder (using 'Quicktime Player') and so I decided to take that on. I experienced discomfort not having used Quicktime before, but in a safe learning environment what better place to learn. After asking Mark and Tanya, finally I got the gist of it. Unfortunately my group had to restart the google hangout because I missed the recording! But they were very gracious. Why can I take this back to my learners? Having a Growth mindset and also understanding the feelings the children are likely to experience around new learning, in other words having empathy for my learners. It would of course be remiss not to attach the file here.
I have installed One Tab and collected a number of tabs onto the 'One Tab' which allows me to have multiple tabs open and keep them manageable. .

GoogleKeep is another application that I will use to manage areas of home life. It is much like a diary that can be used as a checklist- but with the digital aspect -turbocharging by either copying the note again, reading other people's notes, linking the keep to Google drive, using google drawings, etc.
Kia Ora Bernard, thank you for asking questions, it was a pleasure to help you solve them. The more you play with quicktime the easier it will become. I enjoyed your heading in the blog and even though today was about teachers workflow it was goo to see you found ideas/links to take back to the classroom.
ReplyDeleteKia ora Tanya, thank you for your message. Yes, like most things, the more you use an application or tool the easier it gets. As you recall I couldn't find the window that was recording, but once I did it is pretty straightforward. Thank you for all the work you put in yesterday.
ReplyDeleteKia ora Bernard,
ReplyDeleteLike you I have found this session to be really valuable and utilise Google Keep in my personal and professional life.
It is good to see you reflecting on how your experience is similar to the students when they are learning. The ability to be able to empathise with our learners and understand how challenging learning can be is valuable for us to craft our ways of teaching.
Nga mihi,
Mark
Thank you Mark. I think the 'Positive, Thoughtful, Helpful' model on commenting is such an amazing contribution to education. I think the time I have had on the DFI has directly impacted my teaching in so many ways, not least giving me the confidence to try new aspects of the digital tools we have and be OK with them not working in front of the learners. I've grown so much in the last 3 weeks. Thank you for being such an amazing passionate teacher.
